- CSA does or did make an item called the ROCKET LAUNCHER for the 2630.
- All it is, is a CPU and FPU (68882) mounted on its own circuit board.
- It runs at 50MHz effectively called a doubler. Cost from $399-499.00
- In my opinion, it does not actually double the speed of the system.
- and cost/performance could be better spent on another accelerator. It
- runs much hotter that the standard 25MHz CPU/FPU and requires the cover to
- be installed or you can expect lockups due to an extremely hot cpu.
- I should know .... I own one ... SysInfo ranks equivalent to an A3000
- for most things (not all)
-
- FYI: To installed it, you just remove the existing CPU/FPU and install
- this little circuit board into the CPU socket and RF shielded bay and
- reinstall the cover...the PGA '030 is a challange to remove, the first
- time, even with the enclosed chip extaction tool. It feels like you will
- break the chip long before you get it out...I managed to get mine out ok
- with a little patience.
